Bar, club and art collective, the Queen of Hoxton holds court in the heart of the East End, entertaining her neighbours with a tight programme of music accompanied by a rolling gallery of art installations, photographic exhibitions, fringe theatre and screenings. The ground floor is an intricate blend of window etchings, graffiti, ivy and a landscape of benches and screens. While the games room takes in table-football, vintage pinball and a unique Brighton pier 1960’s gaming rarity. The Queen’s alter ego appears in the basement bar, dark and a little twisted, the space caters for her every whim hosting film nights, cutting edge gigs and sweaty raves.
On the eve of her second birthday in March 2011, This Queen has been busy keeping London’s music lovers, clubbers, art fiends and hedonists occupied every single night of those 24 months. From hosting some of the biggest names on the live music scene such as; The Drums, Miles Kane and Roots Manuva, a selection of the world’s best turntablists, the legendary ‘That Mixmag Thing’ parties, indie club nights promoted by some of the most famous faces you’ll find on TV alongside art installations and exhibitions. The venue even becomes a snug bar with bespoke entertainment areas every Tuesday for ‘Tuesday Night Inn’- there really is something for everyone in this royal establishment.
Despite already being one of East London’s most popular venues, the old girl hasn’t let complacency set in and in 2010 she underwent a spot of surgery; the installation of a brand new Funktion One Soundsystem, and the creation of a stunning Victorian roof garden complete with decking, Astroturf, rum shack and panoramic views over the city of London – the perfect spot for a G&T in the sun, or even a visit to the winter wonderland for a glass of mulled wine. And 2011 saw an interior revamp on the ground floor, come check it out for yourself!
Quite simply, the Queen of Hoxton is the ultimate youth club for the adults of the east side.
