Venue Description

Located at the base of Blackheath Hill, Amari offers contemporary clubbing, moderately priced drinks and great music in a uniquely cosy environment.

The Venue
Amari is a stone’s throw away from Deptford train station and offers a unique clubbing experience on the very outskirts of Blackheath. Beautifully defined seating areas, a disco-inspired bar and spacious garden make it the perfect place to chill, dance, and relax with friends after a hectic day in the office. The decor is plain and the dark wooden flooring throughout makes the venue look more like a haunted house than a place to party.

The mirrored walls and contemporary furnishings do add an interesting look to parts of the bar, but the real draw of this small but airy club is the garden, located around the back. Decked out with modern garden furnishings, light wooden decking, and jungle-type plants, you can enjoy the fruits of the Amazon in an urban city jungle.

The Atmosphere
Amari attracts a diverse crowd of outer London revellers, from your average middleclass workers to university students - there are no pretentious wannabes in this establishment. Locals make up the majority of the crowd although outsiders do step in occasionally, and the average age of an Amari reveller is around twenty years. The door staff are surprisingly friendly and happy to help. The bar service is equally delightful.

The Music
The club’s primary music selection focuses on RnB and reggae music, although you can expect to hear a bit of Missy Elliott mixed in with Amy Winehouse or Britney Spears. If you listen hard enough, you may be able to hear snippets of generic pop rotating around somewhere - just about. Amari also uses the services of less-than-famous DJs, so don’t expect to see any celebrities in this joint.

The Drink
The drink prices at Amari are moderately priced. A spirit and mixer will leave your pocket about £3 lighter and you’re looking at around £5 for a double (worth opting for if your priority is to get merry). Overall, the menu is bland and the drink selection mediocre. They also lack a decent cocktail list – quite shameful.

The Last Word
Amari is average. That’s it. The venue is still young and therefore lacks personality, but if you’re in Deptford for the night, it’s worth checking it out.
