_Kouncil House

Kouncil House is one of the most relevant producers of the current day covering several styles. There have been some of the greatest remixes done by this guy, who has also worked with some of the greats such as my all time favourite DJ Mickey Finn. He has appeared on radio shows across the world including our very own Annie Nightingale.

I was lucky enough to catch up with him for a quick fire interview for Clubnet.

Hi Kouncilhouse, as one of my favourite producers it is a real pleasure to do this interview with you, I would like to start by thank you to take the time out to do this.

So start off with some of the most obvious questions, how did you get in to the dance scene?

The same as everyone else really who was around in 89 / 92 just kinda fell into it.

Yeah for sure I know exactly where your coming from there. What was your first set of decks?

Soundlab (Belt Drive)

What was the first vinyl or tune you ever mixed?

Eat Static (Let them eat static)  on a double cassette player that could play two tapes at the same time whilst using the pause button as pitch control.

Do you remember the first ever record/tape/CD you ever bought

Yeah....

What were they?

Record was Humaniod - Stakker Humanoid

I will have to look that up!

Tape: Jack master Flash album and Steve "Silk" Hurley - Jack Your Body and not to sure about CD i think it was ... oh i can't remember

Who would you say is your biggest none dance influence growing up?

My mum

That's cool man. I personally have been into pretty much every kind of dance music in the last 20 years, (god that makes me old) starting with rave music in the late 80s early 90s to the present day where I like pretty much everything apart from garage. Where would you say your heart is at the minute with the dance scene?

Ummmm Trick question .....

Do you remember your first dance event?

Yeah

And what was that?

Yeah it was Megadog (All night bash) or it might of been Leftfield at the Brixton academy  or even Big Love or Tribal Gathering back in 96

Do you still go out much to events you’re not working at , where would that be on a usual night out for Kouncil House?

Not really club's much anymore but I try to go to every festival that goes on in the year. Love Festivals!

Me to mate. You are famous for doing some of the most amazing remixes, how do you choose what you’re going to work on next? And how does the process start, can you almost hear what needs to be done to that tune?

I don't sit down and think right I'm going to make this track into any sort of genre. I just sit down and experiment and see what happens.

Have you got any remixes your working on at the minute that we can look forward to hearing?

Yeah, I'm working on some remixes for a label in the states and I'm remixing an old Freestylers track, Security alongside some other bits.

Seriously can't wait to hear that one! What label are you currently signed under?

Pigeon foot

You have also worked with my all time favourite DJ Mickey Finn how was that, he is a true legend?

Yeah loads of late night sessions and a good laugh !

If there was someone in the world that you would really love to work with and have not yet who would that be?

Steve Hilage, Flux Pavilion, Liam Howlett, Skrillex, Feed me...... i could go on all day....

Are you a massive venue kind of guy with a throbbing crowd or do you prefur smaller more intimate venues?

Not really that bothered to be honest it's all good fun

Who are you listening to at the minute?
