A night out in... Gibraltar
Despite being a generally small area Gibraltar has a variety of discos, nightclubs, pubs and restaurants all coming to life after the sun sets, many offering live entertainment. Most of the nightlife spots have the same opening hours as nearby Spain, where many establishments open in the evening and remain open until the early hours of the morning.
Gibraltar has more pubs on offer than anything else with 'Irish Town' or 'Back Street' being a popular destination after dark, located at the south end of Main Street's Western End. The most liveliest bars on this strip are The Clipper and the Royal Oak which are also open in the day and serve food including English breakfasts.
In Gibraltar's Case Mate's square you will find many bars side by side all with outside seating areas, such as All'sWell known for it's bass beers and Lord Nelson Bar Brasserie decorated to represent Nelson's ship with a cloud and sky ceiling crossed with beams. By day these bars offer a wide selection of snacks and main meals with the option of outside seating so you can sit and watch the hustle and bustle of the square.
From Case Mates square Ocean Village is within walking distance offering spectacular views of Gibraltar's Marina. Ocean Village is Gibraltar's newest build and caters for all types of people. Pretty lighting, elegant board walks , decked piers and over 10,000 decorative trees and plants make for the ideal environment for soaking up the southern lifestyle by day or evening.
In Ocean Village you will be able to find a venue that suits you. From Cafe Fresco and Pizza Express, Savannah nightclub, O'Reilly's Irish Bar and All Stars Sports bar there is a wide choice to eat or drink and watch the sun set. If you fancy a flutter the village also includes a Gala bingo and Casino.
Verdict:
A night out in Gibraltar is quite different than that in the UK, and that's not just because of the warmer temperature and beautiful setting!!
To me it seems less about big night clubs and more about pub crawling, the atmosphere is relaxed and drink measures are larger!
Prices vary from place to place but are similar to the UK. Dress code seem to vary depending where you go, generally the feel is smart casual, shorts and flip-flops are fine but you will need to make the effort if you head to the Casino. There are plenty of places on offer depending how you feel, I personally would prefer more larger clubs although there are a few dotted around but that is because I am less of a 'pub' person. However with clubs you would not be able to enjoy the scenery as much.
The setting of Ocean Village and the smartness of it really gives off a holiday party vibe and I think this comes across when you go on a night out in Gibraltar.
